Exfoliation is the process of removing dead and dry skin cells from the surface of your skin, resulting in a smoother and more even skin texture. Exfoliants, in general, offer these features, but physical exfoliants, such as scrubs, can provide an immediate improvement in the softness and radiance of your skin. Let's walkthrough Clean Maple's exfoliating tips for perfect, smooth skin!
Choose an exfoliating product
There are several types of exfoliating products available, including chemincal exfoliants, physical exfoliants, enzymes and acids. Chemical exfoliants contain acids that break down dead skin cells, while physical exfoliants use friction to remove them. Enzyme exfoliants use natural enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells, while exfoliating acids combine both chemical and physical exfoliation.
Clean Maple’s Maple Sugar Scrub uses the gentle physical exfoliant of maple sugar, that offers more than a traditional sugar scrub by also delivering all the benefits found in maple sap (learn more here). Maple sugar also contains natural humectant properties, meaning it can attract and retain moisture. When used in a scrub, it can help nourish and hydrate the skin, leaving it feeling softer and more supple after exfoliation.
Prep your skin
Before exfoliating, it's important to prep your skin. Start by cleansing your skin to remove any dirt, oil, and grime. Then, use warm water to soften the skin and open the pores. This will make it easier for the exfoliating product to penetrate the skin.
Apply the product and rinse
Apply the exfoliating product to your skin using gentle, circular motions. Be sure to avoid the eye area and any areas of broken skin. With a physical exfoliant, too much pressure could aggravate the skin, so apply just enough pressure for a gentle massage. Once you've finished exfoliating, rinse off the product with cool water. This will help to close the pores and soothe the skin.
Moisturize your skin
After exfoliating, it's important to moisturize your skin to help restore its natural moisture barrier. Choose a moisturizer that is appropriate for your skin type and needs, and apply it immediately after exfoliating. We recommend Clean Maple’s Maple Lotion for everyday use, and Maple Body Butter as an ultra-hydrating indulgence 3 times per week.
Don't overdo it
Exfoliating too often or too aggressively can damage the skin and cause irritation. We recommend exfoliating three times per week. If you notice any signs of irritation or redness, stop exfoliating immediately and consult a dermatologist. Always patch-test any new skincare product, and if you have specific skin concerns or conditions, consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional for personalized advice on exfoliation and product selection.
